NC takes move for government formation; Efforts to be made to take full support of JSP

Kathmandu, May 11: Main opposition Nepali Congress has decided to take initiative for the formation of a new government as per the Constitution after incumbent Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli lost vote of trust in the House of Representatives.

A meeting of the NC office-bearers and former office-bearers held at President Deuba’s residence at Budhanilakantha today decided to put all-out efforts for the formation of a new government as per the Article 76 (2) of the Constitution as called by President Bidya Devi Bhandari.

NC joint general-secretary Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat informed that the meeting has decided to exert efforts for securing full support from Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) for new government while the CPN (Maoist Centre) has lent its support for the same.

With the disapproval of vote of confidence in the Lower House, President Bhandari on Monday had called on the parties to stake a claim for the Prime Minster from among the member of the HoR who can have the majority with the support from two or more political parties as per the Article 76 (2) of the Constitution within 9.00 pm of May 12.

On the same day, NC President Deuba, CPN-MC chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and JSP chair Upendra Yadav jointly had urged the President to call for the formation of a majority government.

In the HoR, CPN-UML has 121 parliamentarians, NC 63 (two suspended), CPN-MC (53, with four suspended), JSP 34 (two suspended), the Rastriya Janamorcha, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party have one each and one independent parliamentarian.
